We continue to upgrade our facilities to ensure we provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
Coburg Special Developmental School began as a Day Training Centre managed by the Helping Hand Association Committee of Management. It originally operated in three classrooms; one being converted from a garage on the site of the DTC. When it moved to its current site at Gaffney Street in 1991, the school was made up of a range of relocated demountable buildings dating back to the early 1980s. Over the last decade, there has been major upgrades to the site, leaving a combination of original and newer buildings, with the newest having been placed on site in 2015. We have a Base Room on the grounds of Coburg North PS which services two of our Early Years classes, including students in their first year of school.
We continue to upgrade our facilities to ensure we provide the best possible learning environment for our students, including the recent construction of a number of shade sails throughout the yard and between buildings, allowing a more flexible use of our environment.
In 2020, the school received $22.85 million dollars from the State Government for a Capital Works project that will see the school being rebuilt with all permanent buildings. This is an exciting time for our school, students and our community.
